im new to the kayak world , and I've been doing so much research on which kayak to get , and this hobie lynx has been in my list for awhile. Im so undecided on which one to get and its down to two kayaks, the Pro Angler 12 and the Lynx. i fish in rough conditions out here in NYC in the ocean and in the new york harbour . Was wondering which kayak you think I should get it ? because this video just made me even more confused lol

Why I gotta see this when I just went to REI and made a purchase on one, not cuz I wanted it, but here someone returned it cuz the pdl drive was defective, then REI ordered the standard one and not the 180, so they marked it $900 off, then there was a 40% off sticker on it, so they also took that off and I got it for like $1065... I wanted the Native Slayer pro, or TitanX, but how could I turn down $1065 on a hobie with pdl drive.

Nick how you doing do you have a video where your showing the correct placement meaning the up and down cable. Having heck of a time getting my rudder to come back up and down. Cutting to valuable fishing time bro just kidding. Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙏🏾

Just bought the PDL 106. I have some serious issues with my left elbow and had a tough time steering. I can't believe a product like this exists. Thank you so much. Will be ordering soon. already have several upgrades I want to make from your storefront. Is there an orange version? I'm a sucker for matching my colors. LOL

Thanks, just what I need. my pedals started knocking after 5 years of use and no maintenance other than rinsing after fishing a salty bay (Baffin bay, Tx). My kayak is half old town, half Navarre Kayak Fishkng!

Nick it seams like you need to give it a chance to switch before you stop paddling in reverse. It’s no more expensive than a hobie pro 14 old town is much better product I think than hobie

I know you're a big Old Town guy. What are your thoughts on this v. Old Town PDL 120 for inshore and bay fishing and how it will handle small waves? I'll primarily fish inland for largemouth but will do some saltwater from time time to time. I know the Bigwater is better in that application, but I value the stability for the majority of my fishing v. the ability to take on big waves. I can't find any videos or discussions of people using the Titan X in saltwater. I really love the seat on this thing!

Landing in this video in 2024 is giving me nervous vibes hahaha. I caught a compass for about 2040$ after taxes at an REI sale (haven't picked it up yet). Will be interesting to see the seat flex area, but I am incredibly lightweight so i doubt it'll be an issue for me. I'll see if I can DIY some high density foam into the back. My thoughts on justifying this purchase were (aside from it being on a super clearance), I don't want to spend the amount of today's dollars to buy another outback or "just as good" equivalent as a spare for a friend when buddies want to tag along. This compass is meant to be my lighter weight, easy to car-top kayak for quick solo trips. I've owned the PA12 back in 2015, and then swapped to a 2019 outback. Every time I "downsize," I miss some of the old features. One feature that always stuck around though that I wish would go away is the hatch leakage. Primarily, I have only experienced FRONT hatch leakage. From an innovation standpoint, I think hobie has been complacent since the outback in 2019. I remember when I picked up a Jackson Coosa HD, many of the features were like "oh wow, they thought this out!" Perhaps one day, I'll just go get another Jackson and mount an electric motor to it.

I just bought this kayak, and even after 4 years, this review is spot on. Storage sucks. You can't access the hull to pump out water if you sprung a leak. At full flank, the kayak is pretty slow. And you don't have the flexibility of the PDL 120. WOuld I take this offshore, no. Do I regret my purchase, no.... but I would have thought that over the 4 years OT would have made some improvements to this hull given what was said here. These are low hanging fruit improvements that are long overdue.

Hey Nick, do you run into any issues with leaving the pedal unit in the hull during long trips? Wasnt sure what the best way was to secure the pedal drive. Thanks!

Nick, do you have a solution so it doesn't hit the back of pickup truck? Maybe install facing to the side of the kayak nose. I'm thinking about ordering one for my 106MK. Thanks!

Just be aware that if you buy this lower pinion unit it will make a grinding noise/feel when you install it. Reason being is the new pinion gear that is driven/turned by the vertical shaft pinion is married to the old gear. I recieved a lower unit about 6 months ago from OT before they offered this and spent some considerable amount of time troubleshooting this grinding noise/feel. Once I removed the pinion from the old unit and put it on the new lower unit all was good.

I have a Ocean Kayak Malibu pdl that didn't come with the locking steering knob. The rudder constantly moves if I take my hand off of it. I want to be able to let go and go straight. Will this sold that problem? Mahalo

Any chance you could make some more of your products for the salty. I’ve noticed there are more things for the 120. I would like the berlypro type hull protector made out of the kydex. Btw love everything you do for us old town owners. Hopefully my comment does come off as negative

Any recommendations on what to do with failing powder coating on the lower drive? I contacted Old Town and they told me it was a cosmetic issue and not covered under warranty. The salt corrosion is bad though and its obviously only going to get worse. I hose it off after, but doing that didn’t save the original powder coat so I'm not sure how much help that will be.

Would you recommend replacing the lower if you've owned your pdl for 3+ years in saltwater even without issue? Just curious, thanx!
